Just For The Halibut

Cravin' some fish 'n chips? This ain't no filet-o-fish! I LOVE halibut fillet burgers and when they served with fresh homemade coleslaw, tartar sauce, and a toasted bun... they can't be beaten. Move over beef burgers... This one's just for the halibut!

Halibut Fillet Burgers with Homemade Slaw

Servings: 4

Prep Time 5 mins

Cook time 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 halibut fillet burger patties (you could also use cod burgers)
  • 4 Burger buns
  • Tomato, cut into slices
  • Tartar Sauce
  • Ketchup
  • Red Onion, cut into slices
  • Cheddar cheese, sliced
  • 1 small cabbage, shredded
  • 2 carrots, peeled & shredded
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp. dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp. white vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • Juice from 1 lemon
  • Salt & pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450F
  2. Place halibut burgers on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway. (This is using Meridian's Halibut Fillet Burgers, other burgers may take longer or shorter depending on their thickness)
  3. The last-minute or so of cooking, toss a slice of cheddar cheese on each burger until melted
  4. While burgers are cooking, make the coleslaw dressing by mixing the mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, sugar, lemon juice, and salt and pepper
  5. Place shredded cabbage and carrots in a bowl and toss in the coleslaw dressing
  6. Butter burger buns and place under the broiler (watching carefully to ensure they don't burn) for 1-2 minutes until toasted
  7. On the top side of the buns spread ketchup and on the bottom side spread a generous amount of tartar sauce
  8. Layer the burger on top of the tartar sauce and top with homemade coleslaw, tomato, and red onion
  9. Serve with fresh chips (fries)!
